Dietary Habits and Health Behaviors of Korean Adolescents according to Smartphones Overdependence

Abstract

|
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of Korean adolescents at risk of smartphones overdependence. It was conducted to identify the influencing factors on the smartphones overdependence risk group.
Methods: For this study, raw data were used for the 16th Adolescent Health Behavior Survey (2020) conducted in 2020. A chi-squared test and multiple regression analysis were conducted to analyze the differences and influencing factors of adolescents' smartphones overdependence.
Results: Factors influencing of smartphones overdependence were demographic characteristics such as gender, academic performance, father's education and mother's education, dietary characteristics of carbonated drinks, sweet drinks, fast food, health and mental health characteristics such as drinking experience, physical activity, weight control, health perception, stress perception, sadness and despair, and loneliness.
Conclusions: Demographic factors, undesirable dietary factors, and health type factors were related to the risk of smartphone dependence among smartphone adolescents. Based on these conclusions, there should be a development and dissemination of health promotion programs for Korean adolescents in the future.
